We are excited to announce that Trusted Assessing and Care Training (TACT) has commissioned RIDC https://www.ridc.org.uk/ (Research Institute for Disabled Consumers) to undertake an independent survey of older and disabled people who have been assessed for equipment and home adaptations by a Trusted Assessor. The ground-breaking survey aims to benchmark levels of satisfaction with Trusted Assessors and identify areas for improvement in the role and model.
The research is being funded by TACT as one of a range of projects in 2025 designed to lead to improvements in the quality and speed of access for older and disabled people to the right equipment and adaptations for their home. The TACT team is also funding regional projects around the UK training roles around the person – leading on the influential role of Trusted Advisor. You can read more about the project we ran in South Wales earlier this year here https://tact.18a.co/almost-five-thousand-people-every-month-set-to-benefit-from-better-advice-on-independent-living-in-wales/.
Clare Barber, OT and Director at TACT says ‘We are passionate about the Trusted Assessor model and the ways in which it can empower a range of roles to do more and improve independence for older and disabled people. This new survey will provide us with direct insights into the real-life impact of Trusted Assessors and help inform future development of the model. We are delighted to be working with RIDC, the leading research agency specialising in understanding the perspectives of older and disabled people.’
The survey aims to find out about people’s search for practical solutions, who assessed them, what equipment and adaptations they were prescribed or acquired and how satisfied they were that their needs and situation were fully understood. They will be asked what they think could be improved.
Fieldwork is due to start in October 2025. Trusted Assessors will ask people they see to opt in to being contacted by RIDC. All findings will be anonymised; TACT will not have access to details of individual respondents or their Trusted Assessors.
