Our training and support programmes

We specialise in programmes designed to upskill a range of roles around the person to improve and speed up access to aids, equipment and home adaptations. Trusted Assessors learn how to assess for simple cases and know when to refer to an Occupational Therapist (OT). Trusted Advisors are based in front-door services and provide valuable advice about the types of equipment and adaptations that can help and how to access them. Trusted Installers ensure that equipment is adjusted and ready to use. OTs handle more complex cases and teams work together to reduce delays in providing much-needed equipment and adaptations for the home.

Trusted Assessors work in a wide variety of roles and organisations, read our recent report about the growing adoption of the role within care services and housing providers.

Devised, developed, and improved by the UK’s leading team in Trusted Assessor training, our programmes are available in a choice of formats including eLearning, blended and face-to-face at venues UK-wide and we are experienced in developing tailored training programmes. As the originators of the current national qualifications, our latest courses are accredited by OCN London and have been designed to meet the needs of today’s learners and commissioners.

Our broader programmes provide support after training in checking competencies and refreshing knowledge and we offer a range of practical tools. Trusted Assessors can access our free monthly webinar programme led by our OT Trainers. Programmes for in-house Trusted Assessor training are delivered through our bespoke Train the Trainer programmes.

We offer a range of courses for Occupational Therapists looking to refresh their practical skills. Equipment Refresher for OTs is designed to update professionals involved in assessing for equipment and adaptations solutions and Reablement for Professionals blends theory and practice to improve confidence in reablement programmes.

TACT works in partnership with a range of trade and professional bodies including BHTA, Care & Repair Cymru, Foundations, Housing LIN and NAEP along with leading regional organisations throughout the UK.

Get in touch if you would like a no-obligation chat, we regularly provide talks and workshops and share insights from our projects UK-wide.

The Trusted Assessor Model

The Trusted Assessor model trains frontline staff to carry out basic equipment and adaptation assessments, reserving complex cases for Occupational Therapists. It supports quicker, safer access to equipment that helps older and disabled people live independently. TACT offers OT-led training, specialist top-up courses, and ongoing webinars. we can also help organisations choose, tailor, or implement Trusted Assessor programmes.

The role of Trusted Assessor was created over twenty years ago by the then Department of Health as a way of speeding up the safe provision of community equipment. A wide range of staff around the person with needs can be upskilled to undertake a simple assessment and to know when to refer more complex cases to an Occupational Therapist (OT). The Competency Framework for Trusted Assessors was devised to outline the skills needed to safely determine the equipment required, and the publication of Adaptations without Delay (2019) by Housing LIN and RCOT reinforced the profession’s commitment to the model.

You can download the Framework from our Resources page along with a range of other useful materials, reports, case studies and articles.
